Original Run: Sunday, September 14, 2025 – Sunday, September 21, 2025
I’m incredibly happy to finally share this here.
This is the very first #W2DTogether challenge I ever created. It officially launched on Reddit within the r/LearnToDrawTogether community, and it became the starting point for everything that followed. If you’re new to the site, you’re starting exactly where everyone else did.
The Challenge
Challenge number 1: Lost in Thought
This drawing challenge is all about capturing a moment where someone is mentally somewhere else. The goal is not just to draw a person, but to show that they are thinking, drifting, disconnected, or completely absorbed in an internal world. To literally represent the feeling of being lost in thought.
The Personal Twist: Add Your Real Thoughts To make this literally represent the feeling of being “lost in thought” and to make it deeply personal, your artwork must also include your own handwriting with your actual thoughts—whatever is currently on your mind right now.
You can include your thoughts in different ways:
-
Write them inside the contours or shapes of your drawing (like filling a head silhouette or an object with words).
-
Write them in the background, as part of the atmosphere.
-
Place them around your subject, like floating thoughts.
It can be one single word, a full sentence, or even a small stream of thoughts. The only rule is that it should be your real thoughts.
Inspiration: 7 Reference Images
To help you get started, I’ve gathered 7 reference images that perfectly capture this mood. Feel free to use them as a direct reference or just as a springboard for your own imagination.

What You Can Draw
You can approach this in different ways:
- A person sitting quietly, lost in their thoughts
- Someone daydreaming or remembering something
- A scene where reality blends with imagination
- A symbolic drawing that represents what’s going on inside the mind
There is no single right way to do it.
How to Approach It
Don’t overthink the idea.
Take the first image that comes to your mind when you think of “lost in thought” and build your drawing from that.
This challenge was created to help you stop hesitating and start drawing.
Optional Direction
If you want to push your drawing further, think about:
- What is the person thinking about
- Is it something calm, heavy, nostalgic, or confusing
- How can you show that visually without explaining it
Even a simple drawing can feel powerful if the idea is clear.
